Wangaratta is at one end of
Victoria's Great Alpine Road. The Great Alpine Road is best experienced as a
two day touring route between Wangaratta and Bairnsdale so make Wangaratta
your starting base on day one.
The city is also convenient to the Historic town of Beechworth and to the Victorian snow fields.

Travel Tip |

|
To the west of Wangaratta lies the rugged Warby Range. Much of this mountain range is a State Park where the environment can be enjoyed on foot or by car. There are picnic areas, lookouts and lots of natural flora and fauna. At the southern end of the Warby Range lies the historic town of Glenrowan, where the infamous Ned Kelly made his last stand before being captured. There is lots of Kelly information, exhibits and displays in the town. A half-day tour encompassing the Warby Range, Thoona township and Glenrowan will not disappoint. Bring a picnic lunch and spend a relaxing time enjoying the quiet back roads of Wangaratta. |
