Department of Sustainability & Environment Powelltown Office |
The Department of Sustainability and Environment office is situated on Little Yarra Road at the Melbourne end of Powelltown's main street. They have information on forest activities including bushwalking, driving, camping and motorcycle riding in the surrounding forests. They also have a well stocked map and book stand. |

The forests of the Yarra Valley and Upper Latrobe Valley have a long history of sawmilling and logging operations. Machinery relics of a past era such as this old winch can be found at many of the abandoned sawmill sites. This particular item is at the Ada No.2 Mill site; an easy 1 km walk from Dowey Spur Road. |

This
is a half buried steam engine boiler also situated at the Ada No.2 Mill
site.
The Ada No.2 Mill and other historic mill sites are situated on the 'Walk into History'; a 2 day walk between Powelltown and Big Pat's Creek. The walk can be done as an overnight hike with a camp stop at Starling's Gap or in easy day or half day sections. Not far from the Ada No.2 Mill is the very old and large Ada Tree. It is worth a visit into the area just to see the Ada Tree alone. Everything else is a bonus. |
