If you have time, try a short stroll along the railway reserve trail from the township to the cemetery. The trail has been developed into a nature trail with signs indicating remnant native vegetation. |
| Not far from Merton is the old goldfield locality of Gobur. There's not much left at Gobur to evidence the gold rush days except for this interesting memorial. Standing next to it is an old gaslight pole. Gobur can be reached by car from Merton via 'Old Gobur Road', a fairly rough but scenic country laneway, or via the sealed Kanumbra to Gobur Road. Return to the Maroondah Highway via Yarck. |

A short drive from Merton along the Euroa Road and then the Strathbogie Road is Polly McQuinn's weir. This is a good spot for a picnic or a few moments relaxation. |

Travel Tip |
|
|
If you are heading for the Hume Freeway, consider turning off at Merton onto the Euroa Road. This road leads to the freeway after passing through Euroa township. Not only is it the shortest route from the Maroondah Highway to the Freeway, it is also a very scenic alternative. An added bonus is that the road carries far less traffic than the more popular Midland Highway. |
