CAMPING PLUS, AUSTRALIA

6 Alice Street, Merimbula

Camping Plus can supply camping gear, barbecue accessories, outdoor cooking utensils, tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, swags and lots more to do with outdoor recreation. They also have a good range of topographic maps for exploring the region in fine detail..

Walking is an ideal way to explore the Merimbula Coastline. Start with a fairly easy two kilometre return walk along the foreshore of the lake between Spencer Park and Bar Beach and you will be rewarded with some great little spots accessible only by foot or water.

Next on the list of short walks should be the Jiguma Walking Track from Pambula Beach. After reaching the river mouth you can follow a riverside track into Ben Boyd National Park.

Ask at Camping Plus for the best spots to camp in the National Park.

If you feel ready to tackle some longer and more exciting walks you can try the Light to Light Walk in the National Park, south of Eden. Although the entire walk is over 30 kilometres long, it can be done in easy stages. The walk links the historic Boyd's Tower (pictured left) with the Green Cape Lighthouse (right) via some spectacular coastal scenery.
Probably the most challenging recognised walk in the region is to climb Mount Imlay (seen here towering over Twofold Bay). You will need to be reasonably fit and agile to complete this walk.

If exploring back-roads is more your thing, try the rough forest road which leads to the top of Wolumla Peak for some great views. The access road is best suited to 4WD vehicles.

Believe, it or not, the fire tower, so essential for the local community, and from where tourists were allowed to obtain the best views, was trashed by vandals in 2007. It's not only a city problem, moronic hoons can apparently strike anywhere at any time.
