Mount Arapiles lies to the west of Horsham. It is
well-known around the world as a top-class rock-climbing destination. A scenic alternative route between Horsham and South Australia takes you through Natimuk township and past Mount Arapiles. |
|
One of the most scenic places in Victoria is the Grampians National Park. The National Park is within an easy hour or two from Horsham. This is Boroka Lookout between Halls Gap and Wartook. |

|
Halls Gap at the foot of The Grampians is a great place for families, and particularly for international visitors. You will be assured of getting those 'Kangaroos in the Wild' photos; and with some great scenery as well.. |

The Wimmera River is a life-line of the Wimmera District.
From Mount Cole near Avoca, it flows through Horsham and disappears into the Albacutya
Lakes system on the fringe of The Big Desert. This photo is at Dimboola near
The Little Desert. A rowing regatta has been held annually on the river for over 120 years. In the drought year of 2006, the regatta was unable to be held because of insufficient water level. This was the first time in the regatta's history that the competition could not proceed due to the condition of the river. |

Travel Tip |
|
|
Instead of following the Western Highway between Horsham
and Stawell, locate the the road through the old township of Glenorchy. This
road runs almost parallel to the highway for quite some distance. It may be
a bit longer to Stawell, but peace and quiet away from busy traffic is well
worth the extra time and distance.
Unfortunately Glenorchy is an example of what is happening to small communities throughout Victoria. It has lost its store, its hotel and even this old bakery has closed its doors to business. |
