Eildon Visitor Information Centre

Township of Lake Eildon

The Eildon Visitor Information Centre is situated opposite the main shopping centre in Eildon township. As well as providing lots of tourist information, the centre also provides community services such as banking, internet access and a meeting place for various groups. They have a well stocked map stand with maps and books on Lake Eildon and the surrounding mountain and forest regions.

Beside the information Centre is 'Mimi Jane', a pioneer houseboat of early days on the lake. Visitors may be able to view the houseboat internally for a small fee on application at the Visitor Information Centre.

Houseboat and other recreational boating has increased enormously since construction of the first Eildon Weir. There are now several good marinas around the lake. This one is Eildon township's boatharbour situated in a scenic little cove. For some great views of this area look for the Mount Sugarloaf Walking Track or ask at the Information centre.

When the lake level is low, ruins of early farm buildings resurface from their normally flooded depths. This one is part of the old Merlo homestead complex at Coller Bay. The ruins and relics of Lake Eildon have become at tourist attraction in their own right. The Visitor Information Centre has a good map of the lake for sale showing the location of most of the old ruins.
