The mountains and river valleys around Dargo are a four-wheel drive paradise. This is one of the many river fords in the Crooked River area. (Wongungarra/Crooked River junction). |
| This old
hut can be found beneath the walnut trees at Black Snake Creek on the
Wonnangatta River. There is a good riverside camping area near the
hut.
Blacks Snake Creek once hosted some gold mining activity, relics of which can still be found a short distance upstream along the creek.
| A grassy clearing surrounded by high mountains is a former township site on the Crooked River goldfields named Talbotville. The site now offers one of the best camping environments in the Victorian Alps. |

Travel Tip |
If you are travelling to or from Dargo via Stratford or Bairnsdale and are looking for a scenic place to spend a few moments, try the Final Fling Rapids at Glenaladale. To find this great spot on the Mitchell River, locate The Fingerboards Junction (cross roads) at the Fernbank (to Princes Highway) & Bairnsdale Road Junction. Follow the minor sealed road opposite the Fernbank Road which leads to the tiny hamlet of Glenaladale. Turn right into the Lindenow/Ferndale Road and then left (before the bridge) into Alexanders & Finlay Road. The parking area for the rapids is at the end of this road. The rapids are named 'Final Fling' by canoeists and white-water rafters as it is the last opportunity for some excitement before the calm waters of the Lower Mitchell River are reached. |
