Corryong

and The Upper Murray

Corryong is situated in far north-east Victoria close to the Upper Murray River and within an easy drive to The Snowy Mountains in New South Wales. The scenery around Corryong is breathtaking with large expanses of grazing properties on the river and creek flats below some of the highest mountains in Australia.

Corryong Newsagency in the town's main street has a great range of maps for touring or exploring the area.

The Magnificent Upper Murray River flows from some of the highest mountain peaks and offers a wide range of activities including fishing, canoeing and camping.

The countryside around Corryong is accessed by usually quiet country roads. Old buildings stand as reminders of former days before modern transport made travelling easier. This old-timer is situated beside the Murray Valley Highway at Berringama, about 28 kilometres from Corryong.

Travel Tip

If you like a bit of adventure try the road north of the Murray River between Corryong and Albury via Jingellic and Wymah Ferry. The scenery is terrific, the Murray is never far away and the road is quite good for a gravel surface. From Corryong, cross the river at Tintaldra and follow the back road through Jingellic, Dora Dora and Talmalmo, crossing Lake Hume at Wymah Ferry and again at Bellbridge before reaching Albury. The total journey from Corryong to Albury is about 130 kilometres with about 85 kilometres gravel road.
