COOMBAH ROADHOUSE

On your way to the Outback

Coombah Roadhouse is the only retail premises on the long road between Wentworth and Broken Hill in Far Western New South Wales. The roadhouse caters for all types of passing travellers. You can relax for a moment for a quick refuel and a cuppa, or you can enjoy a sit-down meal.

The roadhouse is situated approximately half way between Wentworth and Broken Hill.

To travel between the neighbouring towns of Wentworth and Broken Hill means a minimum journey of about 270 kilometres along the Silver City Highway.

This picture is typical of the scenery you will see through the windscreen of your vehicle.

Near Coombah is a rest area known as 'Popiltah Lake' Rest Area, on the western shore of Popiltah Lake. Most of the time the lake will look like this, but there is a rare occasion when you can see it full of water overflowing from the Darling River system.

Closer to Broken Hill, the scenery on view begins a transformation into the outback-like landscape, Broken Hill is well-known for. Colours of land and sky contrast vividly and any object suddenly becomes appealing as a photographic subject.

Travel Tip

One of the best introductions to Western New South Wales can be experienced by a self-drive tour over three or more days incorporating the towns of Wentworth, Broken Hill, Menindee and Pooncarie.

Plan a round trip from Wentworth by following the Silver City Highway to Broken Hill via Coombah. (Pick up a map of Outback New South Wales at Coombah). Stay a day at Broken Hill and visit the old 'Ghost Town' of Silverton before heading back to Wentworth via Menindee, Pooncarie and the Darling River.
