Cann River Cafe

at the turn off to the Monaro and Canberra

Cann River Cafe at the junction of the Princes and Monaro Highways is a great place to stop for a bite to eat, coffee or other refreshments. They also have a good selection of maps to choose from including local maps for touring and four-wheel driving.

Wingan Inlet, a little over an hours drive from Cann River along a reasonably well maintained gravel forest road, makes an idyllic camping spot beside the inlet's sheltered waters. An easy walking track leads to an unspoilt ocean beach.

About 45 kilometres from Cann River along a gravel forest road is the Point Hicks lighthouse surrounded by Croajingolong National Park. Limited accommodation is available at the lighthouse. Ask at the Parks Victoria office for details. Alternatively take a tent and stay in the Thurra River Camping Area next to the lighthouse reserve.
Elusive Lake is a 6km walk from West Wingan Road.

Surrounded by bush with white sandy beaches, the lake makes a great picnic lunch destination for keen walkers but, when walking through Croajingolong National Park, keep an eye out for those nasty little paralysis ticks.

A day after taking this photograph, the photographer found a tick well-embedded in his scalp. It took a very painfull extraction to rid him of the parasite.
