Broken Hill
is noted as an artists' town. These sculptures and models are in a park
near the Broken Hill Visitors Centre.
The Broken Hill Visitor Information Centre has a stand full of great maps for touring and exploring Broken Hill and the Outback region. |

A trip out to the old mining township of
Silverton won't disappoint. The town is an outdoor museum of old buildings
where you can walk around at your leisure and take some interesting
photographs. Silverton existed as a town of about 4000 residents before Broken Hill was even thought of.. |

Day Dream,
along the same road as Silverton,
was another town with several commercial buildings and a population of 500 in
1889, now there is nothing apart from a few crumbling ruins and the
buildings associated with the Day Dream Mine. The mine opens daily for
underground tours and you can enjoy a snack and refreshments in the cafe
and souvenir shop near the mine.
Visitors are welcome to wander around the old township site. |
| Menindee Lakes, about 110 kilometres from Broken Hill is the city's aquatic playground. The Broken Hill Visitors Centre will advise you on things to see and do at the lakes. |

|
A group of prominent cone shaped hills come into view as you approach Broken Hill along the Silver City Highway from Wentworth. These hills are known as the Pinnacles. It is possible to obtain a good view of the Broken Hill area from the Middle Pinnacle. An unsealed road south from Broken Hill leads to the Pinnacles Mining Area. Along the way it passes The Pinnacles which are a series of prominent peaks often seen on paintings of the Broken Hill area. There is reasonable access to the Middle Pinnacle where you can obtain good views of the surrounding countryside. It makes a good lunch spot, but try to avoid it on a windy day. This view is from the top of the Middle Pinnacle. Note the flowering shrub growing in what must be the most barren and windy place in a barren landscape. |
