BOMBALA Platypus Country |
Bombala is a rural town situated at a medium high
altitude of around 700m above sea level on the Monaro Plains of
south-eastern New South Wales Crouch Motors Service Station in the main street of Bombala has a good range of local topographic and touring maps. |
Bombala is known as Platypus Country. Keep an
eye out for these elusive animals when exploring any of the mountain streams
in the area. This is the Bombala River which flows through the town.
Visitors (and locals) can enjoy a pleasant stroll along the streamside walking trails. |
Across the river from the town is the old railway station heritage precinct where old buildings and relics of the past can be viewed in the parkland surrounds. |

Travel Tip There are some great touring options around Bombala with scenery varying from the undulating plains around Bibbenluke (left) and the rugged mountains around Myanba Gorge (right). Spend a night or more in Bombala and find out what the region really has to offer. For a genuine Monaro experience try the short 36km round trip from Bombala on gravel roads via Bukalong South and Cambalong. |
