Kalamurina is a vast desert wilderness, stretching from the northern shore of Lake Eyre to the southern boundary of the Simpson Desert reserves. Three watercourses flow through the property, the main stream is the Warburton River which has its origins in Queensland's Channel Country.
Kalamurina covers 667,000 hectares (1.7 million acres). It is a property of exceptional conservation values, providing a haven for several endangered species including the Ampurta. (Source: Australian Wildlife Conservancy).
Our donation will be used to assist with the purchase of this pastoral station for wildlife conservation purposes. Australian Wildlife Conservancy has a strong history of converting former pastoral land to wildlife refuges. They currently own 15 sanctuaries covering 1.1 million hectares (2.7 million acres).

The Crest-tailed Mulgara is a small carnivorous marsupial with a body length of about 18cm. Its prime habitat is the southern Simpson Desert and margins orf that region. Land clearing, habitat use for pastoral purposes and feral animals have all contributed to the decline in its population to the extent that it is now a 'Red Listed' by the Australian Government as a vulnerable endangered species. |
