Victoria's Box-Ironbark country extends from Chiltern in the east to Stawell in the west. There are good stands of forest near Chiltern, Heathcote, Rushworth, Bendigo, Castlemaine, Maryborough, Dunolly, Inglewood, Wedderburn, St. Arnaud, Ararat and Stawell.

Wildlife of the Box Ironbark National Park gives a comprehensive overview of the ecology of the box-ironbark habitats and their wildlife. It covers all of the reptiles, mammals, birds and frogs that occur in the region, with a brief description of their distribution status and ecology, with a distribution map and a superb colour photograph for each species.
