A.B.C. Maps -- Product Profile

IN THE PATH OF THE ROARING FORTIES

by Freda Jones and Tom Sullivan

Memories of King Island

This book covers the period from discovery to post settlement and should thus appeal to both the reader of 'folk recollections' and the reader of Australian history. It is written from the birds eye view of a native born King Islander whose father was the first resident policeman on the island, electoral registrar, government auctioneer, crown land bailiff and school truant officer plus other government positions. Being a hot tempered Irishman he was quite a character in his own right.

Research entailed numerous visits to the Mitchell Library besides visiting King Island. There are few specific books about the island and this book could be called a collection of the gleanings.
