Mystery in The High Country The Wonnangatta Valley, now within the Alpine National Park is one the most popular Bushwalking and Four-wheel driving destinations in the Victorian Alps. The upper portion of the valley was settled as a cattle and sheep station during the mid to late 19th century and a modest homestead was built by the Bryce family close to the river flats. Today all that remains is the outline of the homestead, an old hut, and a small cemetery. This book tells the history of settlement in the valley, the rise and fall of the Crooked River goldfields, packhorse trails through the region, burials in the cemetery and the deaths of Jim Barclay and John Bamford which remain a mystery and subject of speculation to this day. Soft cover. 142 pages. approx. 214mm X 137mm. RRP $29.95 |
