A Long Way From Silver Creek

By Margaret Gee

A Long Way from Silver Creek

A Family Memoir

This lively memoir tells the story of Margaret Gee's family, spanning three generations living on the land in picturesque North Eastern Victoria, near Beechworth - Kelly country - and steeped in the history of the gold rush and early pioneers.

The book tells the story of Margaret's father Allan Gee, who survived the rigours of the Great Depression at Silver Creek, before realising his dream to leave the bush and join the Navy. He survived the sinking of HMAS Perth in Sunda Strait in 1942, which claimed the lives of almost half the ship's complement of 682. Allan and the remaining survivors were taken prisoner by the Japanese and after months of captivity in hell-holes in Java, passed through Changi prison before being sent to work as a slave labour force on the infamous Burma Railway.

Soft laminated cover  350 pages. (2000). Approx.150mm x 230mm. ISBN 9781875574391 RRP: $29.95
