Mungo National Park, situated in far south-western New South Wales near Mildura has a strange landscape made up from layers of time in the form of 'lunettes'.

Once an inland lake teeming with wildlife, it is now a barren place with dry sand-hills eroding away to reveal the much about the lake's former times including evidence of human occupation to 35,000 or more years ago. Ancient animal remains have also been found.

The park is perhaps more famous for its unique dune 'sculptures' where hardened portions of the dunes have been left to create some stunning scenery.
